20130711 - RESOLVED - mail.chi1.etrn.com is unavailable for outgoing SMTP

Update: This issue had been resolved at of 10:30 AM. For users with E-Mail Hosting accounts on this system, the updated host names listed below are still recommended.

We are currently investigating an outage to our chi1.etrn.com data center involving the host mail.chi1.etrn.com and outgoing e-mail

At this time, the host name mail.chi1.etrn.com is not accepting connections for outgoing e-mail. To resolve this issue, please use the following updated host names as shown below. Please replace domain-tld or domain.tld with values appropriate for your domain name. For example, if your e-mail addresses are the form of user@example.com, your Outgoing Server (SMTP) host name would be example-com-smtp.etrn.com.

Outgoing Server (SMTP): domain-tld-smtp.etrn.com (preferred) or domain.tld.smtp.etrn.com

The preferred host names for your incoming server have also been updated:
Incoming Server (POP3): domain-tld-pop3.etrn.com (preferred) or domain.tld.pop3.etrn.com
Incoming Server (IMAP): domain-tld-imap.etrn.com (preferred) or domain.tld.imap.etrn.com

We appreciate your patience during this event and welcome any feedback. Thank you for being a ETRN customer. Please contact us if you have any questions.

We Answer Your Questions: FAQ

Q: What is the maximum e-mail attachment size?

A: The ETRN.com e-mail servers do not limit the size of individual e-mail attachments. The ETRN.com e-mail servers do impose a 400 MB maximum total message size limit. Individual customers can choose a smaller message size limit. We can also customize the handling of "over-sized" e-mails. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs. A couple of important facts:

1. Attachments are typically encoded in what is called Base64[1]. As a result, the actual length of MIME-compliant Base64-encoded binary data is usually about 137% of the original file size.

2. E-mails often contain both plain text and HTML components. This also increases the overall size of the e-mail.
